I grew up in Fredericton and have lived
there my whole life. I graduated from FHS in 2000 and
continued my education at St. Thomas University completing
a BA in 2005. I recently graduated from the Education
program at ABU and now hold a Bachelors of Education
degree. I really enjoy working with children and look
forward to a career working with them.
I was never into sports as a child however I was involved
in horseback riding and competed with that a fair amount.
I started working out a few years ago for health and
pleasure. About 5 years ago I was diagnosed with Crohn’s
disease and was hospitalized for months. During that
time I underwent 2 surgeries and had various complications
from the illness and the surgeries. I was also diagnosed
with Arthritis. On top of all of this I was put on a
medication that caused me to gain weight. When I started
to feel better I knew that it was time to take the weight
off. My body had been through a lot and I was left with
many scars so showing my stomach was difficult and not
something I enjoyed.
I never planned on competing and honestly never really
thought I could. I had amazing results in the first
few months. My friend Melissa persuaded me to do the
New Brunswicks in November. I had decided a long way
out that this was going to be my goal and it really
helped me keep my focus. I have always been a shy person
so just getting on stage was going to be a HUGE accomplishment.
The feeling you get when you step on that stage is unlike
any feeling I’ve ever felt before. You forget
about your body's imperfections and are filled with
confidence.
I recently competed at the 2007 Atlantic Championships
and although I didn’t place in my class I was
very pleased with how I came in and happy with my progress.
